Still no mode of transportation for this old Hippie, so I can't get there...
Not to mention a permanent residence - so no Xmas tree this year either -sigh-
Chin Up - Better Luck Next Year (I Hope). Only about 3 weeks left in this stinking year - and I was just getting used to writing 2010 on the checks to the electric company...

After The Binge...

Love lasts forever (so they say) - and trying to fit all you've got into a 3 day holiday with that someone special who's been away for a while can be somewhat exhausting...

We did a bit of drinking for his birthday.

The next day was spent cuddling.

The only quiet time we spent was for about 15 minutes when I was taking him back. I was driving - and I glanced over occasionally as he gazed out the window in silence. I finally smacked his leg and said "Shut - up! You're too fucking loud!" We both roared as we stopped for the last drink together. I looked in his baby blue eyes and tearily said "I'm missing you already."

He kissed me and went to stand in the doorway, watching as I pulled away.
I never wanted to go.

I'm counting the seconds till I see you again Little Brother...

Return of the Mountain Man

I know it's been a while, but I thought I might start up blogging again...
Last year after Google so thoughtfully decided to block my main blog, =CoffeeHouseStudio= without letting me access and fix whatever the hell problem they said there was so... I kinda lost heart for blogging.

You would think that they would put someone there to contact for help - but I guess they're too busy to help out with a "free blog"...

That was a few year's work they just decided to ditch and it was a real pain in the ass. I thought they were going after this one next - so I just stopped... Since that time, I found a few of the old archives here.

Things have changed quite a bit for me - not everything good - but I'm not gonna whine about it here. At least I still have a job and a roof over my head (for who knows how long).

Digger's gone out to the Southwest wilderness - and Moochie's run away, but I'm still here plugging away every day.

I need to get a hold of my old friends at the station to see if I can actually do a Summer Break Show. That always makes me feel like a bona fide human being again - so what the hell...

Another good one, but the air-conditioner was out last week, and someone closed the doors to the station and fried the compressors, so our air signal was a bit weak... MusikFest is in full swing.

Went by the Depot for a drink and late lunch, but they wanted us to pay $10. for parking and were pretty nasty - so I just blew it off and went in to say hi to my son - who works in the kitchen.

Taking some Time

I'm sitting here relaxing a bit - finally able to take a breath.

Had a bit of a hassle when I went to the prison last night - and I only got to see the D-Man for about 5 minutes. Frisking is not all it's made out to be... (visits are supposed to be a half hour long - I suppose if you don't happen to be wearing a hat, bandanna and a tie-dye.)

At least he got to see his daughter. Hope he's alright.

Looks like I'll be getting him out of the slammer soon (I hope... if all goes well).

Got him a lawyer Tuesday, and he's awesome. Calmed me down immensely.

Then I got an extended "line of credit" at the bank - signing the papers next Monday (thank gawd it went through). Then it's off to the Courthouse to pay the lawyer and the first set of fines . With Luck, he'll be transferred, the lawyer will show up and ask for a hearing, and I'll pay the second set of fines (the big ones) at the Courthouse in the next county - and he'll be released in time for the Fourth (please). Brings new meaning for me to the Independence Day thing...

Can't wait to give him a big fat hug and then a good bare-assed licking. I still think that cop had a hard-on for my man. If you'd have seen the smile on his face when he slapped the cuffs on... you'd know what I mean.

Damn this is such a racket it seems.
The charges were dropped years ago on the first warrant, but the fine still has to be paid.

He's in the medical unit, so I can almost breathe a sigh of relief.

The U.S. has the largest prison population in the world-over 2.3 million inmates. Since the 1970s, the rate of most serious crimes has dropped, yet prisons have been filled at double capacity. People of color, the poor, the illiterate, the mentally ill, youth, and women are the primary occupants. This growth is due to mandatory drug sentencing laws, conspiracy provisions, a dysfunctional parole system, inadequate legal representation, and huge profits made by the multinational corporations servicing the prisons. The posters in Prison Nation cover issues surrounding the system of mass incarceration including: racial disparity in sentencing, the death penalty, the Three Strikes law, women's right to self defense, access to education and health care, the growing rate of incarceration, slave labor, divestment, privatization, torture, and re-entry into the community. They show the power of art to educate and inspire people to action.

What Would You Do For A Klondike® Bar?

I certainly wish that this black cloud would blow away. It's been hanging around for much too long. Dropped my hard drive and lost 45,000 music files. That really sucks. The radio show will probably be a little lean this week without them.

Saw D-Man in prison yesterday, joked that orange wasn't really his color - and that he shouldn't drop the soap - and then cried later on (not in front of him). He looked good in spite of the circumstances. I wanted to give him a big hug - but that damn glass is pretty thick. We each held our hands up to the glass at the end of the short visit and stared into each others' eyes.

I miss him so damn bad. Every night I keep looking over at the chair he used to sit in while we watched Family Guy together and bawl my eyes out.

Feeling a bit helpless and frustrated. He doesn't know what the other charge against him could be... I had the money to pay his fine, but they told me that if I paid it he would be transferred to another prison. Need to seek more legal advice. Problem is, I don't have any more money. Rent and auto insurance are due at the same time so I'm kinda strapped right now, financially.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

This was my first show in the new time slot: 12noon - 3pm on Mondays for the summer.

I dedicated the show to my buddy (and roomate), Digger who happens to be sitting in jail at the moment. He was supposed to be with me on the air today, but got arrested last Thursday while walking into a convenience store to buy a pack of smokes. I was pumping gas at the time, and the cops were bastards. I thought I was back in the fucking 60's again...

Still haven't heard from him, after calling the prison numerous times. I'm going down there in person after writing this post.

Why is it that we can't help ourselves when we fall in Love?
This old Heart always seems to pick the worst scenario.

I'm just a hopeless romantic, I suppose.

1:00 pm Thursday:

I was pumping gas while D-Man went into the station to get smokes. Next thing I know, they have him cuffed while pulling up his shirt - and tearing his pants open, searching... "Kannst du mikke funge?" - my mouth was wide open in disbelief...

The K-9 'men' told me to go "Get Lost." they said - after running a check on my license. D-Man kissed me in front of them - while handcuffed - wild fucking look in his eyes and said he would call me. They shoved him in the car and wouldn't let me follow, so I ended up going to work.

I'm still waiting to hear from him - a nervous wreck... My heart's been beating miles a minute all day.

I'm just hoping that kiss wasn't a kiss goodbye...

UPDATE:

1:07 am Saturday:

Got the word on my compadre earlier today. Seems there was a parole violation (in another county from 2005). He didn't show up for a court date in this county, so they're holding him over - Magistrate dropped the charges - but he still has to pay $1,000 or spend 45 days in the slammer, and then go to jail in the other county.

Does that make any sense at all?

I want him back here with me where he belongs...
...Calling a lawyer on Monday. Something seems a bit out of kilter.

Another Day In The Life...

Finally heard from Fucker again. Man it was good to hear his voice. Haven't seen him since last Thanksgiving.

Then, one of the waitresses said that my tires looked funny. I went to check only to find that someone loosened the lug nuts on both of the front tires - coincidence??? Who'd do something like that?

Subsequently, I learned of two deaths... It's not been a great year so far. I'm kinda freakin'...

Drac and Blackula showed up at the club last night(perfect timing). I confronted Drac and asked him when it would be convenient for me to pick up the rest of my belongings from Castle Dracula, and he brushed me off by saying his father just died - call him next week. Can't help but wonder why they'd be out celebrating by singing karioke... Just blows my mind. I suppose everyone deals with their grief in different ways.

I went home to find Ms P (a long-time friend of D-Man) in my bed. (my bed happens to be the living room futon right now) She'd had a few too many white russians last evening, and she's gone to the races today. Hope she has a blast. She's a cool lady and deserves some happiness...

D-Man's up at his landscaping job. I hope he doesn't overdo it again like last weekend - lifting heavy equipment. He really scared me - all's well now though. (thank gawd) Old injuries sometimes never heal completely ...and sometimes new injuries will never heal. We try do our best to accomodate an aesthetic quality for mollifying the spirit - but sometimes the body resists.

Had a bit of trouble getting set up this week. After the minor delay, things seemed to run smoothly.

The little car needs a brake job - and two new tires - it was a bit scary getting in - but we made it. Big old "Bessie the Bronco" needs a new idler belt. I'm broke till payday...

Seems that the new casino just discovered the station, and it was a bit of fun talking to them on the phone. They were requesting Zeppelin. It sounds awesome in SHM (super high material). You can actually hear Jimmy page touching the 12-string if you listen... but do we really need another CD format? This is the way things should have sounded from the beginning... Damn the record companies.

Getting older sucks...

Lately I guess I'm becoming prone to getting some kind of anxiety attacks. The old mind spins round & round for a few minutes and I sometimes have a bit of difficulty breathing. Never experienced this type of thing before.

It's a minor pain in the ass, and nothing serious - but it sure as hell can be inconvenient at times.

I need to settle up once and for all with the Counts of Monty 'Crisco'. I suppose that would make a big difference in the way I feel about myself.

It can be a rough thing getting your self esteem back - and I've been down this road before - only this time I seem to have gone a bit closer to the cliff side of the road. It can be a scary thing falling that far down...

"Rainy Day Money"...

I'm so glad I found the hundred dollar bill I stashed away in my wallet for a rainy day - or in this case - a rainy night.

Some of you know that I've been going through the process of "regrouping". The last time I was at Castle Dracula (about a month ago). I was removing some personal items from my bedroom, and I came upon a crisp, new $100. bill... hidden under my ashtray. I decided to hang onto it for a while...

Anyway, we had a little incident on the road last Tuesday night. The guardrail jumped out and shut off the fuel pump.(LOL) When we came back to the truck the next day, it was gone. The police had it towed as an abandoned vehicle. Luckily we found it at the local impound and quickly paid the $55 fee. The next thing I knew, the tire went flat on the other vehicle, so D-Man and I drove the truck to a used tire place where they had only one tire left - of the size I needed - price, $45... I snatched it right up. Thank gawd both vehicles are running just fine now - and thank gawd I put that money away for an emergency.

I'm so happy it's payday today because I'm flat broke now.

I Can't Drive 55

Almost snagged a 12-point buck on the trip back here last night... It was raining, and I saw 6 deer on my side of the road - so I slowed down (luckily). The damn thing ran right into my path from the other side of the highway. I slid across the road like I was on a sheet of ice - and continued homeward bound.

D-Man was home when I got there - all cleaned up and looking ready to go a few rounds - with chicken burritos in the oven for me. He's a sweet little fucker. Damn, I just wanted to grab a hold of him and lay a big wet one on him. I just gave him a big fat bear hug instead... Nobody's ever given enough of a shit about me to do that before. He made me feel like a million bucks (no pun intended).

Got up early today to go in and cook breakfast - because the other cook doesn't seem to know how to use the phone - I drove the 40 minutes down from the mountain, and lo and behold, he was just getting out of the car when I arrived - so I came back home.

D-Man's sleeping in the other room - I can hear his sexy measured breathing... I'm taking him back to the Doctor on Monday to get his throat examined thoroughly (we were in the emergency room last Tuesday night). Wish the best for him - he merits a good break for a change. My heart aches for him - all he ever seems to get is shit on, and he deserves so much better. His good health and happiness will be my only wish as I blow out my birthday candles. I probably don't have very many more left...

...but it's so good to have a home again, and I don't have to wish for that anymore.

Finally freed Mooch (my cat) from the clutches of Count Dracula & Count Chocula today. He's here with D-Man & me at the new place. I don't understand why they kept him, really - since they say they are both allergic to cats. It's just mind boggling to me. Holding a cat for ransom...

I still have the futon (which I'm sleeping on) and which they are trying to lay claim to. They have my bed, so... fair trade, as far as I'm concerned. The nerve of some people...

I must return to Castle Dracula one more time to get my upright bass, congas, paintings, art materials and some other personal items.

I wonder if they'll let me take my things - or if they'll say they belong to them.

Drac gave me a list of things that he wants returned - he says they are his, but he knows differently. He's turned into such a lying bastard lately. It's really sad to see what he's become. He called me "irresponsible" and "negligent" in his last phone message. Strangely, although it's not humorous in the least, I got a big laugh out of that. What a putz. At least I got my pussy...

I went to the old house today to get my cat and a few personal items, but the locks were changed. I then went directly to the police department - where they told me in no uncertain terms - that I have the right as the homeowner to break into my own house.

I will be doing this tomorrow... and if either one gives me a hard time - I will direct the police officers to kindly escort the "gentleman" who has been living in my house since last July O-U-T.

Winter Solstice Today... [:::]

It doesn't feel much like the holidays for me this year. It hasn't for a few...

The lawyer appointment is set for tomorrow morning, and I've not been sleeping very well at all.

It's snowing like a bastard now - so no work today. Thank gawd I'm even alive - after that drunken ride on the icy roads last night. The mountain pass was just horrible. A few trees got a little too close to the old tank... Surprisingly we didn't end up in a fucking snow ditch or down an embankment. I should have just tackled him and taken the fucking keys. That Fucker.

I met a few good people at the watering hole anyway - we played baseball darts. It was a nice diversion while waiting for the D-Man to get back to the bar, so I could throw his drunken ass into the car and take the detour back to this place that I used to call home - or 'Hell Hole' as we now know it.

Not much to look forward to... but then again, what else is new?

They have been very abrasive towards me - removing internet access and many of my personal effects to gawd knows where - which they have no right to do.

An hour and a half massage to a twisted nerve in the neck and shoulder can reveal a few things about someone's desires - and what a hunky bantam bastard he is! He does remind me of a rooster - all puffed up and tuff like he tries to come off - but with me - he shows his tender side. I stroke his long gorgeous hair to the front of his furry chest and explore his muscular and compact shoulders, rubbing that spot that makes him groan with relief in that gruff-sexy voice. The whole damn ritual of it turns me on wildly as I cajole my throbber on his back ever so lightly - and he likes it as much as I do... It just seems that I always get myself into these situations, and I don't know how or why that happens.

I often wonder why these guys like me - enough to trust me with their true feelings. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining - I quite enjoy every second of this sport. "Straight" tough guys, questioning their views on sex with another guy - it can be very rewarding or even dangerous - and I'm still hoping that it will be the former for us.

He's the great outdoorsy type. He wants me to go camping with him. I half-joke and say we'll only need one sleeping bag because it's so cold. He nods in agreement...

I know I could take him to all those wonderful places that he's never been before - if he'd only let me.

Having been involved in the restaurant industry for over 35 years, I've seen many changes come down the pike. Cooking has always been an essential part of my life since I can remember.

Appreciating the diversity of lifestyles and respecting the life experiences of individuals has also long been a determining factor in the creative process involved in my personal style of cooking.

Free-spirited and open-minded, my personal philosophy could probably best be defined as someone once observed, as being something like 'Beethovan mixed with a dose of Biker' - on a search for that perfect union of tastes with the freedom to experiment along the way - amalgamating something new and unique in a world that is fast becoming immutable.

Little Changes: Life Goes On

I've always been notoriously bad at tests...

As I went out to my truck to leave for an audition yesterday, I ran across a dead hawk at the driver's door. I didn't know what to make of this as a premonition - but it kind of unnerved me. I tried to spin it in a positive way, but the more I thought about it - the more it seemed like a serious presage to failure. I put a quart of oil in the old truck and took off over the mountain trying not to think about it...

I was a bit early, so I walked around the next mountain a bit, trying to calm down. It was a beautiful day, I thought - things will be alright. I was pretty anxious to get started.

I was to cook a meal for four. One stipulation being not to cook pork. The amuse-bouche I made was shrimp toast with shredded ham and feta - what an ass! Oh well... I never even thought about it until an hour after I had left the premises. Perhaps if I hadn't been preoccupied...

Dinner consisted of chicken and shrimp in vodka infused marinara cream tossed with overcooked penne - and two perfectly seared strip steaks rubbed with my infamous "brokeback mountain" seasoning (coffee, brown sugar & Kosher salt). The sauce I made for the steaks was supposed to have whiskey, but I was rushed for time and couldn't prepare it properly. The new potatoes I made for the steaks were nearly burned, but I like them with a crunchy crust...

I also prepared a proposal for a fall menu which I gave the waitress - for the table to look at - and got no feedback from it. I was dismissed with the statement that I would hear the outcome on Wednesday...

I suppose I failed miserably - I'll know tomorrow for sure - but if things go the way I feel they did - there's no need to wait until tomorrow to know the outcome.

When I got home, that hawk was still there, so I quietly disposed of the poor creature so the kids wouldn't get to it. I felt pretty badly about the whole misadventure.

This was the job that I really wanted to procure. It would have been a great thing for me - and maybe I'm giving up too soon, but I think I know how to read it... I'm feeling pretty low right about now.

Pride GLV 2008: a personal note

I had the best time at Pride yesterday. I went with Butch & Woofer (of course).

Woofer fucking rocks. He wanted to make sure I was having a great time - so he kept trying to introduce me to people. I do fine on my own, usually... but he went out of his way to make sure I was "covered". I appreciate that so much. He's turned out to be an awesome friend.

We did have a run-in with the local religious kooks when we were leaving the actual Pride celebration, but Woofer handled that situation with grace and style. When the evangelical asshole told me I was going to burn in hell, I told him that I would see him there. He didn't cotton to that remark very well. The "silent witnesses" came to our rescue and escorted us out - shielding us from the religious idiots that were trying to prey on people leaving the Pride celebration.

Later, at the bar:
One of the people Woofer introduced me to was a young (27 year old) microbiologist. I actually told the kid that I had a Son older than him - but that seemed to make him more excited... This kid was pierced & gorgeous. He was falling all over me for some reason. (I guess he thought I was cool) He and his boyfriend were on the outs for about 3 months, and I had to reassure him that I thought he was beautiful. That was no problem at all, because he was. He kept rubbing all over me, and at this point - I was ready for action.

Of course, nothing really happened - but it felt so good to be wanted for a while. Finally his boyfriend Eddie came over, and I made it clear to Eddie that he should be grateful for what he had in - oh, let's call him Spanky.

Spanky just had a glow about him that was so refreshing to an old fart like me... so full of enthusiasm that it was bursting out all over. Finally, after about an hour of conversation that spanned the entire spectrum of modern gay history, they left together hand in hand and Spanky looked back at me and gave me a wink and a smile that made me feel like I had a purpose. It was a great feeling.

Woofer kidnapped me for a few dances throughout the evening - and we had a great time. He's a really good dancer, and I kept up with him just doing the "gay boogie"... I used to be famous for that back in the early 80s at Partner's Cafe when I'd spend practically the whole evening out on the dance floor. (I only lived a block away, on Edgewood Avenue... Right across the street from Yale University)

Those were the days. But these days are good now also...

Gotta go now - my Son just brought me over some shrimp scampi and linguini with a garden fresh salad for supper. MMM it's delicious....

There Is Nothing Like A Gov't Mule Concert

Penn's Peak is an awesome venue, if you ever get the chance to attend an event there - don't miss it! Especially if the band involved is Gov't Mule.

Yesterday, as it turned out was Jerry Garcia's Birthday - and I could think of no better way than to go out and celebrate his life at an awesome concert. Of course I hadn't planned this. I was the proud recipient of a "miracle ticket" and then had the privilege of meeting the band backstage after the concert - Thanks to A.J., Jay and Rich. I don't think that anyone can truly understand what all this has done for me. I actually feel like a real human being again.

As I was writing the playlist from yesterday's show, I got a call about going to the concert that evening. (it was sold out - and I had no ticket). Jay and A.J. took care of all that for me - and even provided me with a means of transportation to and from the venue. I love these guys... It seems I do have a few friends left after all... They look out for me and genuinely care about my well-being. Friends like these guys are a precious commodity.

I cried like a baby when "The Mule" played a few Garcia classics last night:
"Deal > Terrapin > Loser"
...and with their version of "Dear Prudence" (The Beatles)
which was also a staple of the Jerry Garcia Band - the deal was sealed.

The parking lot scene was a bit like a mini-Grateful Dead Concert, and brought all these old memories flooding back from days gone by - and it made me realize just how much I actually loved this type of scene. I felt like I was home again after too long of an absence.

Heartbroken and Happy

Could it possibly be any more confusing?

Guess I'm a bit more affected than I thought I'd be by the "split"...

I find I'm a bit more emotional than usual. Tears start at the drop of a hat - for no reason sometimes. It's like someone died or something (heaven forbid). After all, I thought we were finally getting back together when I received an e-mail "date" from Butch, and we commenced with some awesome rough sex - probably one of the best sessions of our now defunct relationship, but as it turns out - it was only a goodbye fuck... What a bringdown.

Butch's new BF is awesome, let's call him Woofer. Woofer is a big muscular black bear and he's always touching and hugging me. I Love it. If I was a bitter queen, I'd steal Woofer away, but since we're both "pitchers"... I don't think that would work out very well. I'm not about to give up my position anytime soon - and I don't think he is either.

We went out to the club the other night and Butch and Woofer got pretty loaded. I ended up driving them home. While they were participating in the Karaoke competition, I stepped out for a breather, and met a guy named Sean who came on strong to me. I explained to him that I was also a 'topper' - so he immediately started pointing out "awesome bottoms" for me to choose from. It seemed we were instant "hunt brothers", and I was glad for the company. After a bit of that, he told me that two of his ex-lovers were in the bar on this particular night. He was upset and a bit inebriated. I listened to the rest of his story, and he wanted to know more about me, so...

I told him that I was there with my ex-lover and his new boyfriend and that it was a brand new relationship, and that we had attended a friend's birthday party earlier in the day, and decided to stop at the club on the way home. Butch and Woofer came out of the club, and I said, "Oh, there they are." and motioned for them to come over to meet Sean. They just walked away holding hands, as Woofer turned and winked at me - so Sean and I talked a few more minutes.

He sensed I was a bit down about it, and wanted to stir up some trouble at that point. I thought I succeeded in calming him down a bit. He went back inside and I continued to stand out by the lake enjoying the moonlight. I went back inside to the upstairs bar where dancing and heavy cruising were in vogue.

I stepped out again later, and I saw Sean with someone in tow. I said goodnight, and the other one started talking to me - asking which one was my ex. When I told him, he went on about how terrible Butch was - and that I should drive away and leave them there. He'd said he knew Butch from the bar and that he'd been with him a few times before. This blew my mind because I hadn't mentioned my ex's name - but this guy knew it! I thought to myself no wonder Butch never wanted to go there with me before - this was his playground!

I've found that one can learn a lot from a simple night out... Maybe it's time for me to start going out again...

Or gone off on that trip with Fucker for a few weeks - but I decided to go on looking for a job. Still no luck. It would have been too easy to run away from all the responsibilities...

Fucker's gone ramble camping in his new camper, so I won't be seeing him anytime soon. What I will be seeing though, is Butch's new boyfriend, coming out of the bedroom that Butch & I used to share - until last week - I moved down the hall. I feel like last week's garbage.

It's a bit hard, and I can handle it (I think) but it still hurts nonetheless. It's good to see him happy again - and it brings back memories of when we first got together. The worst part is the "exclusiveness". The new guy is pretty fucking gorgeous too. I can see now why Butch wanted to leave me on the sidelines - drop me like a hot potato. I hope he's got what he wants now. We all get along just fine (so far) and it is very interesting to say the least. I hope they won't mind if I bring someone home to stay one night or...

I'm always up for a new adventure. Something's brewing, I can feel it.

I can't say I'm young yet - but I will get over it.

Fucker's Firs: The Healing Process Begins

There's a post - way down deep inside that's been trying to claw it's way out for the past week. I haven't been able to set it free yet - so maybe I'll try writing 'about' the way I feel about it. People say that in the telling of an importunate episode - it makes one feel better, and I imagine that to be true in most instances. However, I can't imagine "feeling better" at this point...

Late last evening I watched the nearly full moon through the beautiful fir trees at Fucker's House. It gave me an inexplicable feeling that touched my soul - kind of like contentment or the reassuring knowledge that everything was going to be alright.

He was kind enough to take me in and listen to my woeful ballad - and offered me some great advice and solace - what a wonderful friend I've gained from all this. I couldn't imagine anyone hurting this gorgeous man - it seemed unthinkable to me. He's been through the dishonesty and despair of a shattered relationship - and from the way he relays it, seems like it's still a very real and relevant part of his life. I could still see the hurt in his eyes as he told me - years afterward - of the betrayal of trust by his lover.

I did the same... revealing all to him about my life - standing naked before him as he did for me. We held on to each other in the glistening moonlight - two old souls in a sea of new instance - and he made me feel so secure, as I haven't - for too long now. We were a perfect match for the timing...

The disparaging feelings of loss, failing a relationship and insufficiency might be something that not everyone can overcome, but goddam it I'm going to try. I have to get over this. I refuse to let it poison me or what I believe in...

I suppose I knew Butch and I were done a few years back, but reluctant to address the issue, I went on as if there was none. This is wrong. If you should find yourself in a situation like this - fight it with every weapon in the arsenal you can muster up. Don't let it go on unaddressed. Unless you want to face the unscrupulous results.

Instead, I attempted meagerly to throw hints about in order to start a discussion - but they always fell on deaf ears - without result. I should have taken and shaken the truth out of him, demanded that he talk to me - but I've always been of the mind: open to discourse if you feel like engaging me. That doesn't always work - a thing I've learned in hindsight, unfortunately.

Then, of course I tried to hit him with the same force that he dealt me: I went out and found someone like he did. I knew from the start that this could never have worked - it was always Butch that I wanted. Still, I found a kindred soul in Fucker - and one very good friend in the process. I'm thankful and blessed for that.

Seems we always know better after the fact...

I didn't get to see the Dalai Lama at work today, but I felt a cool sense of calm throughout the day.
I would have loved to catch a glimpse of him, and had I known - I would have stayed a bit longer. I had to meet my Step Mom for lunch, and that was cool. Maybe I'll see him sometime this weekend.

I usually put a post about the radio show over at =CoffeeHouseStudio=, but I thought I'd try one here today. Here goes...

Another absolutely fabulous morning... but a bit hot this afternoon. Oh well, it is June after all.

I exhibited a great amount of restraint this morning, not mentioning the passing of FISA by our fantasic and illustrious Senate - over the airwaves - in fact I steered clear of any and all things political (except for some tunes) but generally speaking one of the 7 words will slip out when I'm giving a passionate speech - so I decided not to give the speech... smooth sailing.

Hoping to catch a view of the Dalai Lama, I went outside and 'snuck' a cigarette during "Reformation Blues"; a copy of which Adrian Shaw (bass) had sent me (he is an ex-bass player of Hawkwind) from a release (Acid Jam 2000) on his record label: Woronzow Records. I must say thank you again, Ade for all the cool tunes - including your solo CDs and The Bevis Frond CDs.

Also got a phone call at the station about cussing... I didn't, but the listener swears that Grace Slick does on "The Son Of Jesus"... I never heard it, and it's not listed in the lyrics. I know that Gracie uses the fabulous "fuck" word from time to time, and we are careful of what we play on air - so I politely disagreed with the caller.

The recently discovered Jimi Hendrix XXX tape is finally ready to legally hit the streets.

Execs at porno distrib Vivid Video say the Purple Haze icon's estate has failed to prove the film is a phony.

Vivid offered a $100,000 offer to Jimi's estate, Experience Hendrix LLC, if they could prove within sixty days that the archival sex tape was fake.

"We always knew it was real," Vivid's Steven Hirsch told The New York Daily News.

The film graphically depicts Jimi gettin' down and dirty with recognizable super-groupies Pamela Des Barres and Cynthia Albritton.

The old man's off to Philadelphia, left yesterday for a go-round of Jury Duty in the Federal Court. Sounds important, doesn't it? I've been getting updates all day. They haven't gotten to him yet. Maybe another overnight in the City of Brotherly Love for him. We only live about 80 miles away from Philadelphia... WTF? I hope they're paying for the gas - and not the usual 8¢ a damn mile.

I know, I know - you're supposed to do your duty in a democratic society... but damn that's a bit far to travel. Last time I was up for Jury Duty - I said it would be financially impossible for me to serve - because it would have been. If I was chosen and had to stay for a case, I probably wouldn't have had a job when I returned to work. I know they aren't allowed to do that - but this is the restaurant business we're talking about here. Lots of shady things go on in the restaurant...

LITHA (Summer Solstice, June 20-23, dependent on actual astronomical event)

Held on the longest day of the year, the Solstice is the celebration of lights triumph over darkness and that of the bountiful beauty that light brings into life. Flowers are common in the circle, roses and bright cheerful wildflowers are upon the altar and usually worn by all. It is the changing point of the year, and the celebration of the spiral dance of the year is common among Wiccans. It a celebration with much joy, and much feasting. Many Wiccans will attire themselves in bright colours and equally bright adornments of flowers. Usual food fare may include honeycakes or cornbread. Litha is not celebrated by all sects nor in the same way.

We celebrated Midsummer Day (St John's Eve) yesterday at Columcille.

It was a grand occasion with all the stops pulled out. I wish I had brought my camera along - there were so many colorful people there.

First off, let me tell you how hard it is to convince an ex-Priest that he would have a ton of fun at a Pagan Solstice Festival... LOL.

Finally, he went for it and we got there a bit late - just in time to see NNDT.

My favorite performance of the day would be hard to pick...

Native Nations Dance Theater was pretty awesome.

Delwin played the flute at the top of the mountain. (pictured above left) Man, it sounded incredible. It brought the whole vibe together.

I wish my Son would have been able to come along so he could have seen some of his heritage in action. The Hoop Dance was very involved and totally inspiring and also Drew's Prairie Chicken Dance (pictured on the right). This performance lit the flame of the Solstice for me.

The Lady who narrated (I think her name was Vaughnda) was very keen to present a concise history of the dances and what they represented. It was marvelous.

Vicki Doney — Her beautiful voice followed us through the park as we left the circle of stones to explore the wondrous nature of the park at the edge of the Appalachian Trail...

Next up was Circle of Stones Ritual Theater - also truly awesome.

Jack McGavin did his two-tone chanting with the shruti box while I meditated - Butch thought I was crazy, but I didn't care. ;o)

The day was magical - especially in the beautiful setting of Columcille. Butch and I wandered off a few times to visit the megalith formations. I thought of Sister Sorrow as I walked the Labyrinth.

I'll make my way back up there again soon and take some pictures...

Looking for a new job at my age is really frustrating. Especially at this time of the year when the market is flooded with young people...
Sheesh. Fagedda bout it.

Truck driving is looking more and more attractive. Even though I'll be out and about on the road - away from here (I'm a homebody at heart) I do love to drive. Picking a "company" to drive for is getting to be a job in itself. Soon, I'm just going to close my eyes and let my finger fall on the page - as a way of deciding. That's called being definitive I suppose.

In other news, my nephew decided (rightly) to get back together with his girlfriend and move back to Indiana. we are happy for them.

We nearly lost part of the house on Monday. falling trees, lightning and high wind have a way of reminding us that Mother Nature is a force that sometimes cannot be reckoned with. Our thoughts are with the people in the Midwest at this time.

BU$H has ignored disaster victims once again. The Katrina Debacle has taught his administration absolutely ZILCH. Gallivanting around Europe like a lost little schoolboy on summer vacation - he should be ashamed of himself.

Then when he does return - pushing Congress to legislate for offshore drilling like the mad idiot he is. This is just what the Big Oil Corporations needed as an excuse to push their agenda on the American People and the Planet...

Let's all bet on oil speculations like the big boys do and make billions off the little people (see Enron Loophole) fudging their possible 'futures'...

My nephew has been thrown out in the street by his mother because he said he believes in global warming at a church meeting. She was embarrassed when the whole church laughed at him...

She said to him that Jesus is teaching him a lesson. She left him to sleep in his car in a parking lot somewhere in Florida's panhandle - leaving it in "god's hands"... thus absolving herself of any guilt. What a perfect excuse that is...

After inviting him from Indiana to come and stay with her after the breakup between his girlfriend and he (of which she was the major cause) she pulls a stunt like that... at the demand of her 'pastor'. Mommie Dearest indeed. So much for "family values". The whole kit and kaboodle are evil bastards.

At the request of his father (my brother, who has been divorced from her for a number of years now - and who's job is on the road); we have opened our house to him - until he can get back on his feet.

If being "CHRISTIAN" means abandoning your family in their time of need - I'm so glad I'm Pagan. I use the "X" to identify these people - they are X-tians in my book...
They don't deserve to be associated with the name of The Christ.

Wait til she finds out he's coming here to stay in our Gay Household. She'll be going off the hook, I guarantee it. Absolutely bonkers.

Last night I went berserk and shaved my head again this year for the summer. What a clean fresh feeling, but sometimes at night it gets cold... (LOL) so I wear a nightcap after drinking one.

This was a tradition that started back in '95 with the passing of Jerry Garcia. He was always like a member of the family to me, and after the countless Grateful Dead Concerts I'd seen over the years - it was like the passing of an era... I am glad that THE DEAD have finally picked up the banner again, but I'll never forget the Jerry Era...

When I'd heard of Jerry's Death, I was deeply saddened and - I'd gone to the bar and had a countless number of shots of Old Grand Dad in his honor. When I got home after that (about 3am, a bit sloppy) I decided to shave my long hair... with a straight razor! Never do that! My dark red curly hair was almost waist length at that time (August 1995).

The next day, the bathroom was full of blood and hair - and I couldn't remember much - until I touched my head... LOL. My poor Grandmother didn't know what the hell happened - and she was worried. Man did she laugh at me after I showed her my naked skull... She called me "Baldy Sours". I always wear a bandana, and the first time I put it on afterwards it felt pretty strange.

Now "the shaving" has kind of become a tradition, except that I've moved it to the end of spring... Go Ahead - Have a laugh.

I still miss my Jerry...

Legend states that Merlin summoned the stones that make up Stonehenge from the Giant's Circle in Ireland.

Mid-12th Century pseudo-historian Geoffrey of Monmouth, whose book Historia Regum Britanniae (“History of the Kings of Britain”) presented the legend of King Arthur as fact, was perhaps the first to come up with an elaborate, fanciful explanation for Stonehenge’s existence. According to Geoffrey, the monument’s bluestones originated in Africa, where ancient giants scooped them up because of their healing properties and transported them to the mythical Mount Killaraus in Ireland, where they formed the Giants’ Circle. But when Aurelius Ambrosius, King of the Britons, wanted to create a memorial to slain warriors, the magician Merlin suggested to him that the stones (preseli bluestone) would make excellent building material. The king sent an army to defeat the Irish in battle, but they were unable to move the stones, until Merlin used his sorcery to dismantle the structure and transport it across the sea—proving, in the process, that the supernatural was more potent than brute force.

My blog bud, Ur-Spo (who I had originally seen over at Daniel's Reality and Presence would have to fall under the category of "Our Mutual Friend" [more later*] he just enticed me) ... has an interesting post up about blogging. (go read it) I have chosen to respond here because I do love to give endorsements to the blogs I love to read.

He gives 5 Categories...

1) The first blog

I had ever followed was Where Is Raed? by Salam Pax - a gay Iraqi. I used to get so caught up in worrying about him between posts. He is a lover, not a fighter - but in saying that, I've come to realize that he is one of the biggest fighters of all time - fighting for human rights - living the cause day to day in his war-torn country... Thanks to BU$HCO. He was the one who first got me thinking that I might try my hand at it, and of course many of you now know that =CoffeeHouseStudio= was my attempt.

2) "FATE"

My second category (as chronologically - that's how I started blogging) would have to be "FATE" as I went scurrying about in the Blog-o-sphere... I stumbled upon the now defunct PBA (Progressive Blog Alliance) in the early days and joined. Many of the other authors there were politically open-minded and liberal, but not of the same "sexual persuasion" as myself with a few exceptions. I made quite a few cyber-friends there over the years.

Cul @ Ratboy's Anvil has grown to be a very close friend from those early days. It's funny, he probably knows more about me than my own partner does.

Jim @ Mockingbird's Medley has recently put his blog on hiatus. He was kind enough to let me co-author over there from time to time.

Doug Ireland @ Direland was also an early friend. This man is amazing. He writes about global human rights issues from the homsexual viewpoint. From him I learned many injustices in the world that happen against the LGBT community.

Natalie @ All Facts & Opinions, Another Early Friend in the many causes we've tried to advance - politically over the years. She is of a like mind - even in the music. (I'm not your typically gay taste in music... I like about anything if it's done well). Every Song Is A Voice.

Michael Hawkins @ Spontaneous Arising has also been a good friend, offering much needed spiritual support from time to time.

There are many more examples and if I left anyone out, I'm sorry... This one's off the cuff.

3) Our Mutual Friend

*Urs fits into this one for me, as I've said before. I saw a few comments he left over at Daniel's (which was then "The Guy In The Dessert" ) who I happened to meet through "A Big Fat Slob" - who I happened to meet through Rick @ Homo Superior...

4) Reciprocal

I had been blogging quite a while before I'd ever gotten a comment... I wasn't very interesting back in those days (still not ;o)) ... but
One of my best friends, One that has sent me "goodies" in the mail - and TONS of spiritual support is my awesome Sister Sorrow @ Walking The Labrynth Of Life. I first remember her leaving a comment on a post I had over at the =CoffeeHouse= about the Icelandic Peace Tower for John Lennon. We've been close ever since.

Pax Romano @ Pax Romano's Ramblings is another truly awesome friend. Always lending support and good vibes, his blog is a daily read. After I get my coffee in the morning - his site is usually the first place I stop on the web. He always makes me laugh. I could see us palling around the Mall.
It's funny... he refers to his partner as "Whatshisname" - and Urs calls his S.O. "Someone".
I simply call mine "Butch" (sometimes I change the 'u' for an 'i')

Christopher @ From The Left (What a Hunk!) His politics are about the same as mine. He and his partner may be relocating to Portland Oregon soon. I wish them well.

Sorrow Brought Sunshine Today...

I got up in my usual grumpy mood... and then the coffee... That always makes me feel better. Went out to the garden to sow a few plants in the dappled morning sun...

Came back in to check the PC, and lo and behold - one of my favorite bloggers is shutting down his site today. Mockingbird's Medley is ending it's sweet song after 4 years of highly intelligent and acutely relevant political musing - which is a sad note to this rainbow soldier... Jim's always been a friend when I was down, and I suppose we'll still debate even after this; but losing a fellow site is always a sad story. I know nothing lasts forever and all that, but... still.

I went out to my mailbox, and there it was. A little square package of Sunshine from Virginia... I opened the parcel with glee. inside was this small note:

...After I dried the tears, the first thing I did was open the ginger ~lips smacking~ and have some - thinking of my Sister, and what an awesome person she is - and how blessed I am to have found someone like her out here in this ridiculously hard-assed world.

The tea is awesome. I love "Sorrow's Red Mix"... I wish I knew how to read tea leaves - but all I know is that they were dancing the happy dance to the CD she made me. Awesome music, and I'll play a few this Friday on the air.

The mug and candle are on the shelf right now, until later this afternoon when I will put them to good use with another mug o'Sorrow's Red Mix and a blessing.

You've given this old curmudgeonly hippy a real reason for joy. I can't express the way I feel in words. Rekindling faith in human kindness is an invaluable solemnity. Thank you is never enough. I was before, but I really am a believer in Karma now.

Lilacs and Loving Memories

They bloom for about 2 - 3 weeks every year. In that time, their scent permeates the air with a delicious aroma.

They do bring with their beauty, a barrage of memories - my Grandmother's favorite flower, and also a security of sorts - hiding in the bushes from the bullies of youth - a memory shared with a Kindred Spirit.

When I was a youngster, we had a huge lilac bush in our yard - next to the Catholic Church on my block, so I was always in charge of bringing the flowers for Mary "Queen of May". I did so with glee... I loved their magic scent which only came at a certain time of the year. I'd bring in bunches of them and Stella D'Oro would cut them to size and put them in vases in the church. These are probably my only favorable memories of the Catholic Church, besides the Nun I'd had as a teacher in first & second grade - who'd gotten a bit too friendly with my Mother and was inevitably sent away... They'd gotten too close at a Birchwood Acres Clambake, and decided to kick up their heels to a gitterbug - and I suppose they had "too much fun". Predictably, the Bishop heard about it - no doubt from the local "Gladys Kravitz" - and they decided to send Sister Benilda away from the parish. "The Children's Hour" was hot off the Hollywood film express then, and I guess spurious rumors will always fly off the cuff in a small community...

My friend has some similar memories about hiding in lilac bushes as a child, and I sent some flowers to him in the mail. Unfortunately, the post office had other thoughts about what was inside the box...

Oh well. At least he got to smell the magic.

NEW YORK - Albert Hofmann, the father of the mind-altering drug LSD whose medical discovery grew into a notorious "problem child," died Tuesday. He was 102.

Hofmann died of a heart attack at his home in Basel, Switzerland, according to Rick Doblin, president of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, in a statement posted on the association's Web site.

Hofmann's hallucinogen inspired — and arguably corrupted — millions in the 1960's hippy generation. For decades after LSD was banned in the late 1960s, Hofmann defended his invention.

"I produced the substance as a medicine ... It's not my fault if people abused it," he once said.

The Swiss chemist discovered lysergic acid diethylamide-25 in 1938 while studying the medicinal uses of a fungus found on wheat and other grains at the Sandoz pharmaceuticals firm in Basel.

He became the first human guinea pig of the drug when a tiny amount of the substance seeped on to his finger during a repeat of the laboratory experiment on April 16, 1943.

"I had to leave work for home because I was suddenly hit by a sudden feeling of unease and mild dizziness," he subsequently wrote in a memo to company bosses.

"Everything I saw was distorted as in a warped mirror," he said, describing his bicycle ride home. "I had the impression I was rooted to the spot. But my assistant told me we were actually going very fast."

Three days later, Hofmann experimented with a larger dose. The result was a horror trip.

"The substance which I wanted to experiment with took over me. I was filled with an overwhelming fear that I would go crazy. I was transported to a different world, a different time," Hofmann wrote.

There was no answer at Hofmann's home on Tuesday and a person who answered the phone at Novartis, a former employer, said the company had no knowledge of his death.

Hofmann and his scientific colleagues hoped that LSD would make an important contribution to psychiatric research. The drug exaggerated inner problems and conflicts and thus it was hoped that it might be used to recognize and treat mental illness like schizophrenia.

For a time, Sandoz sold LSD 25 under the name Delysid, encouraging doctors to try it themselves. It was one of the strongest drugs in medicine — with just one gram enough to drug an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 people for 12 hours.

Hofmann discovered the drug had a similar chemical structure to psychedelic mushrooms and herbs used in religious ceremonies by Mexican Indians.

LSD was elevated to international fame in the late 1950s and 1960s thanks to Harvard professor Timothy Leary who embraced the drug under the slogan "turn on, tune in, drop out." The film star Cary Grant and numerous rock musicians extolled its virtues in achieving true self discovery and enlightenment.

But away from the psychedelic trips and flower children, horror stories emerged about people going on murder sprees or jumping out of windows while hallucinating. Heavy users suffered permanent psychological damage.

The U.S. government banned LSD in 1966 and other countries followed suit.

Hofmann maintained this was unfair, arguing that the drug was not addictive. He repeatedly maintained the ban should be lifted to allow LSD to be used in medical research.

‘My problem child’
He himself took the drug — purportedly on an occasional basis and out of scientific interest — for several decades.

"LSD can help open your eyes," he once said. "But there are other ways — meditation, dance, music, fasting."

Even so, the self described "father" of LSD readily agreed that the drug was dangerous if in the wrong hands. This was reflected by the title of his 1979 book: "LSD - my problem child."

Friday was like a dream for me - I'm still in the clouds. Fucker came by on his silver stallion (GMC) and swooped me off my feet. We were in heaven for a few hours. He bought me 'birthday' dinner and the whole time I was sitting across the table from him I wanted to jump over and tag him. He's so gorgeous, I get so excited thinking about it even now.

Savoring every moment we had together, we went through the motions of what might be everyday routine in perfect harmony - like it was always meant to be... He wanted to take me for a ride in his new Jeep. We headed off to the farm and picked it up... We both loved every second of the trip. Except when he had to bring me back...

Man, he's got me bad. I'm hopelessly hooked. Last time I saw him was the beginning of November last year. We missed the holidays with each other, and I missed his birthday and he missed mine - but I gave him his presents on Friday. That's too fucking long - but I'm not complaining. I'll wait as long as it takes... He's the one.

He told me a beautiful personal story about a cardinal. I was on the verge... The next day, one flew over my head while I was outside planting. I watched as he landed on the tree across the street. I listened to the singing - so beautiful - and then my phone rang. It was Fucker on the other end... My Gorgeous Fucker. I'm still so unbelievably high. I wish I could feel him next to me now...

Bad news on the restaurant scene... The deal's not going through. Seems there were a lot of hidden debts compiled by the former owners including tax evasive maneuvers. Better to find out now, I suppose.

I was so psyched to start cooking again. I suppose I'll save the menu I made for another space in time... Oh well.

Just a rash of disappointments lately. Must be something in the stars. Sometimes you have to fight your hardest just not to be down. I do have a few happy thoughts to hang on to... now let's see - where did I put those...
